Quick reference for Wortham parents — ID badges, dismissal changes, checkout deadlines, Chromebook drop-off, and visitor procedures at the front office.

The Wortham front office is always happy to help — these are the procedures that keep mornings, afternoons, and everything in between running smoothly for everyone.

Front Office: Daily Reminders

Students should wear their ID badge every day.
ID badges help staff identify students quickly throughout the building. If your student loses theirs, a replacement is $5 through the front office.

The tardy bell rings at 8:25 a.m.
Students should be in their seats, not just in the building, by 8:25 a.m. to avoid being marked tardy.

Dismissal changes must be made before 1:30 p.m.
If your student needs to leave differently than usual that day — riding home with a friend, switching from bus to carpool, etc. — the front office needs to know before 1:30 p.m. Changes requested after this time may not be able to be processed in time for dismissal, so plan ahead when possible.

Student checkouts end at 3:15 p.m.
If you need to pick your student up early, checkout must be completed by 3:15 p.m. After this time, it's close enough to regular dismissal that students will need to leave through their normal routine (bus, carpool, or walking) instead. A parent, guardian, or listed emergency contact must come in person with ID to check a student out.

Only forgotten Chromebooks can be dropped off in the front office.
If your student forgot their school-issued Chromebook, you're welcome to drop it off at the front office. Other forgotten items (lunches, homework, projects, etc.) should be handled directly with your student's teacher rather than left at the front desk.

Outside food deliveries are not permitted.
DoorDash, Uber Eats, and similar delivery services are not allowed on campus. This helps our staff manage campus safety and keep the school day free of outside interruptions.

Absences & Tardies

Reporting an absence
If your student is going to be absent, report it to the front office within 3 school days of the absence to have it excused. The preferred way to report an absence is through the "Report an Absence" form, linked in the top right corner of the Wortham website.
Arriving late
The tardy bell rings at 8:25 a.m. — students should be in their seats by then, not just walking in the door. If your student arrives after 8:25, they'll need to check in at the front office before heading to class.
Excused vs. unexcused
An absence is only excused with documentation — a parent note, doctor's note, or similar, submitted within 3 school days of your student's return. A phone call lets the school know your student is accounted for, but it does not excuse the absence on its own.
Do tardies count as absences?
Yes. A tardy is tracked as missing part of the school day, and if it isn't excused (generally limited to documented medical appointments), it counts as a partial unexcused absence. Early pickups work the same way. There's no fixed number of tardies that automatically becomes "one absence" — each unexcused tardy or early pickup counts on its own toward the thresholds below.
What counts as truancy
Under Texas law and Frisco ISD policy, a student who has more than 3 unexcused absences (full or partial day) in a 4-week period, or 10 unexcused absences (full or partial day) in a 6-month period, triggers truancy prevention efforts. Families in this situation are referred to a truancy tribunal, and county court charges can also be filed against a parent.
Why reporting matters
Every unreported absence, tardy, or early pickup adds up toward these thresholds — even when the reason was legitimate. When in doubt, report it, even for a partial day or a few minutes late.
